I saw a mention on James Kendrick's blog jkOnTheRun of the press release of a new PocketPC application. AudioBay byAcroDesign Technologies that is being billed as a complete podcasting application. Scott Thibault, AcroDesign'sPresident and Founder said in the press release "We are excited to release the first software to allow mobileusers to create and publish podcasts."

See the feature list and a second screen shot after the break.

[Via jkOnTheRun]

Below is the feature list from the VoiceAtom.com site's product page.

Main Features:

Simple podcast creation

Generates standard RSS 2.0 feeds

Generates HTML interface

Includes free hosting for 12 months

Includes podcast reader

Location-based podcast search

It sounds like it has some nice features. I like the free hosting and reader included in the application. I mayhave to run by the office and pick up the XV6700 I have temporarily for development to try this out over theweekend.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

2006 Podcast Expo Registration Is Open

It seems theregistration for the 2006 Podcast and Portable Media Expo is open. This conference is going into its second year andfrom all accounts I have heard it was great fun had by all who attended the expo. It is at the Ontario ConferenceCenter in Ontario California again, although it is moving from November to September. It is still two days of vendorexhibit hall, keynote presentations and conference sessions.

This conference is mostly aimed at those in podcasting, although I know a lot of podcast listeners went last yearfor the exhibit hall, and to mingle with, meet and see their favorite podcasters. It is also a way to getadvertisers and podcasters together to facilitate sponsorship deals.

The conference has five conference tracks this year which are listed after the break.
The five tracks available this year are:

Podcasting 101 - A to Z for Beginners - Getting Up To Speed Fast

Podcasting As A Business - Turning Content Into Profits

Corporate Podcasting - Communications and PR Best Practices

Podcasting As A Hobby - For Those Who Create Purely for Enjoyment

Portable Audio & Video - Moving Traditional Content Into a Portable, On-Demand World(includes sessions for educators, musicians, and other specific interests)

They have a Frappr map setup for attendees to show where they are coming from on the attendees tools page. One of theother tools on the page is a link to the forums setup for discussion and side meeting arranging.

I am hoping to be there either in some way, either as a podcaster, just a podcast listener, or covering the expofor Droxy. Are any of our readers going to be there? Leave a comment if you plan on going.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Podcast advertising on the rise

Following on the heels of thenews of HBO signing to sponsorpodcasts we reported the other day, we noticed an article on the growth expected in podcast audience s andadvertising, which our fellow Weblogs Inc Network Blog TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog) report on as well.

The research firm notonly predicts the future size of podcastaudiences, but they also predict the large growth in advertising dollars spent on podcasts. According to eMarketer, the advertising dollars spent on podcasts this year will be $80 million, growing to $150 million in 2008, and doublingto $300 million in 2010.

Kiptronic recently went live with their Podcast Marketplace, a virtual market that matches up podcasters andadvertisers. While it sounds like a Web 2.0 dating service, it's actually an efficient method for podcasters to havegeo-targeted ads automatically inserted into audio files on the fly. We like that becausewe're tired of hearing about boring services that aren't available in our little corner of the world, aren't you?

The Podcast Marketplace is free to use;you just create a profile of your show, your listeners and upload some clips of your media masterpieces. Kiptronic doesthe rest by making that information available to advertisers. Libsyn has partnered with Kiptronic, so your shows arehosted by Libsyn, click the Kiptronic logo in your account page to get your sponsors listening to you.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Kevin C. This device sounded great on paper as you could record 50 hours of your favorite digital music for future playback. Now that the device is actually on the street, it looks like Sirius was forced to make some last minute changes due to RIAA intervention.

Some of the new "features" include: a one hour maximum of any single recording, music can't be recorded via scheduling(although shows can), recording of any songs are limited to one (and once again) can't be scheduled, and finally, there's a max of 20 recordings allowed. Hmmm....so what's the "50 hours of recording" for if you can really only capture "20 hours"? I think they should change the name from S50 to S20 as a result. Siriously now: what do you think?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Kevin C. I mean that in the best of intentions of course, being a bit of a sucker for SETI and occassionally tracking rover missions with a zest that makes my wife wonder why she's married me. But Universe Today takes it to a whole new level, and as the end of the year approaches the year-in-review book summaries are due. Book fiend Mark Mortimer takes on the challenge by writing up a massive review of the books that stood out from the 50+ he read that year.

But if reading isn't your thing, Universe Today has taken it a step further and create a podcast covering the topics. Mark Mortimer sits down and chit-chats about his favorite space and astronomy books of the year.

Subscribe to the podcast feed here.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Gartner Voice Podcast for the Tech Industry

Gartner has launched a new podcast called the "Gartner Voice." Gartner group analysts get together and wax poetically about the business and technology industry, sharing their insight with listeners. Hosted by Dale Kutnick and Val Sribar, the Gartner Voice kicked off with two podcasts: "The Second Internet Revolution" and "War-gaming: Preparing for Disaster."

Gartner Voice is pretty much an updated version of the META Group METAView series offered since March 2000 until the Gartner acquisition earlier this year. Not to be out done of course, competitor Jupiter Research analysts have been podcasting for several months now themselves.

[via Tekrati]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Inside Mac Games Podcast Debuts

Are you a Mac user? Charlie and Stephen are professional technology writers and their goal is to talk about all those wacky devices coming out, and that we're yearning to have under our tree this Holiday Season.

But don't be fooled by their fun loving demeanor, things supposedly get heated up between these two spunky guys, and sparks fly! Within it's first few weeks, it quickly shot up the ranks of the iTunes Podcast Directory (as well as other directories), and has in the process created a fan-following for a Podcast like no other (buy your t-shirts here).

Why has it grown so quickly in popularity? Sure, you can attribute it to the huge number of the Digging masses subscribing to the show (not to mention the iTunes hack *cough*) but Diggnation hasn't just jumped in popularity and fizzled out, it continues to grow by leaps and bounds. And to tell you the truth, it's one of the only Podcasts I listen to that I can't wait to hear the next episode. It truly captures you from beginning to end.

So let's disect it a bit and maybe we can learn a thing or two from Diggnation's skillz.

Usually the music is something with some hype behind it, so you get revved up immediately.

The Introductions. Next, Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht always announce the episode number, the name of the podcast, and the basic purpose of the podcast on EVERY EPISODE. This is key for people who subscribe to a billion podcast feeds and for new listeners alike.

The Beer. On every episode of Diggnation, both Kevin and Alex pound back some beers while chatting with us. It's a nice touch because you get the feeling that you're hanging out with the crew bullshitting about geek stuff. Plus it adds an ongoing bit they can fall back on (snarfing the beer, talking about how it's going to their head, dropping it, etc) to prevent dead-air.

The Voice. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht actually DON'T have the classic deep "Radio Voices" we've been exposed to for so long on terrestrial radio. They also don't do the cheesy wacky-radio-guy "Heeyyy everybody!" voice either. No, instead they talk normally as if they were talking to a group of people in front of them. What's really nice is that both Kevin and Alex have very distinct voices. You can tell one apart from the other very quickly and that makes for a more exciting recording.

Their voices also keep you awake. Sure, they're both ex-TechTV guys, so they understand the basics in broadcasting, but they break the mold of classic broadcasting by speeking very rapidly, which only serves to fortify the geeky aspect of the show. They have a level of excitment in their voices that really keeps the listener tuned in. Pitch, tempo, clarity - all these things are extremely important when Podcasting.

The Personality. Each Diggnation Podcast has a purpose - to talk about the top stories of the week - but it's the comedy and human side of Diggnation that connects the listner to them. Alex serves as almost the comic-relief while Kevin balances him out - perfect. They talk about the stories, and then veer off into a tangent that leads to crazy discussions that a bunch of friends would be having while just hanging out.

And I think that's really the beauty of Diggnation - just a bunch of geeks just hanging out talking about geek stuff. The sound quality if great, the conversation is awesome, and you feel connected with them. Not like listening to a guy in a room talking to himself, but rather as part of the Digg experience.

I digg it.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

IBM Investor Relations Podcast

IBM has hopped on the Podcasting bandwagon with the announcement of a series of "occasional" Podcasts on it's investor relations website. This is part of their overall effort to increase direct communications with their investors and hopefully a wider listener base. IBM insists these won't be "IBM commercials" touting how cool they are and how you need to buy more stock, but rather insights from conversations between consultants and consumers of hot new issues. We'll see how long that lasts.

Their first episode is called "IBM and the Future of Driving" exploring how technology is changing the way cars are built, driven, and maintained. You can check out IBM's podcasts on IBM's investor relations site and see for yourself.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
