This Holiday Season was supposed to be the big breakout season for HD Radio. With the rapid growth of the iPod and Satellite Radio, HD Radio needs to get to market and get to market fast. That ain't the case, and HD Radio will now miss the boat, once again. Of course, iBiquity croonies are playing this off as a "we don't want to rush things" situation, but the reality of the situation lies in the numbers.Gartner points out that 92,000 HD Radio will be sold by the end of this year. Compare that to the estimated (and highly conservative) 3,000,000 Sirius subscribers and the 6,000,000 XM subscribers, not units sold, and you realize that HD Radio has a loooong way to go.

1. How is this a surprise? As long as the major players control it, and the FCC is controlled by right-wing religious nuts, HD Radio will be a stillborn technology. Same crap, different format.
