Microsoft Halts Music License Talks

MicrosoftIt's been widely rumored that Microsoft was planning a music subscription service similar to Napster To Go and Yahoo! Music Unlimited, but that may have stalled after last Friday's events. Apparently Microsoft doesn't want to play ball with these snotty music companies, and we sure as hell don't blame them (c'mon, Big Music is like so 90s... Indie Music is the new black).

According to those fabulous unnamed sources close to the deal, Microsoft walked away from the royalty demands of $6 to $8 per user, per month sought by EMI Group, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and Sony. And while more unnamed people close to the matter say these royalty rates are pretty much the same with existing royalty costs for online-subscription services -- Microsoft no likey.

Pssst... hey Bill, seriously, look at unsigned artists instead.
