Researcher have estimates that the mobile phone market will reach one BILLION annually by 2009 while iPod sales are expected to reach 60 million by 2010. So if you want to target a larger base of people with podcast content, then cellphones are the way to go right? That's what a Los Angeles-based company, Pod2Mob, is banking on. Their free software (which claims to be the first) lets you listen to subscribed pordcasts on your cellphone. Currently still in beta (surprise!) the software has been tesed on SprintPCS and Cingular networks. The app downloads updated podcasts on-the-go and streams to an applet installed on the mobile phone.Pretty neat idea, but is the sound quality on cellphones really good enough for "listenable" podcasting?

1. Many new cell phones support stereo headsets and the quality is great, as good as any portable MP3 player. In the next couple years, watch - I bet almost all phones will support stereo headsets. Many phones are starting to support high fidelity stereo streaming as well.
