Ah yes Payola - the act of paying off DJs for airplay of music - has reared its ugly head once again. Looks like Sony BMG, under pressure from Elliot Spitzer, has first admitted to bribing DJs in return for "airplay" of their songs, and has agreed to sweeping reforms. These "pay-for-play" inducements took on many forms, from outright bribes to programmers (vacation packages, electronic gizmos, etc) to contest giveaways for the stations' listeners, to payments to radio stations, to even the retention of middlemen used as a proxy for the illegal payments - and yes, much much more.
I don't care what HD Radio brings to the airwaves - until we have honest musical representation on Terrestrail - Big Radio can't complain about people leaving for other mediums. Period.
