Media Life Magazine, a Mainstream Media publication that talks about Mainstream Media things, has a recent interview with Dennis P. McGuire of Carat USA (another company with a dependency on the MSM industry). The interview perfectly illustrates the incredibly aloof attitude that these executives have on emerging mediums like Satellite and Podcasting. His views (slightly paraphrased of course):
- Howard Stern leaving Big Radio? Won't help Satellite, and we'll work around it.
- Will Satellite Radio take off? Hmmmm... nope.
- What's your opinion on Podcasting? Small threat. Can't hurt Big Radio because we have traffic and weather.
- What's the future of Big Radio? We'll tone down the commercials a bit, and throw HD Radio out there. No need to really change the programming.
It was just simply incredible to see the pompous attitude. At what point in time is it going to become apparently to these MSM suits that there's a massive backlash coming? Satellite Radio has taken off faster than Cell Phones, Cable TV, and yes even the Internet. Podcasting is seeing similar growth. Is this all just a coincidence? Please. Put your Scotch down for one second and open your eyes. It's happening.

1. I can honestly say that once Stern moves to Sirius, I'll never listen to the old radio again. The constant ads and vanilla content/playlists turned me off years ago. I hope corporate radio suffers an extremely painful death.
