CHUM and Astral Media, the terrestrial based digital radio partnership that was part of the filing for Canadian broadcast rights, has filed an appeal against the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's decision. The CRTC granted broadcast rights to both satellite radio consortiums last month, though not without restrictions to ensure Canadian content gets it's fair share. CSR (who is partnered with XM) even has said it would pledge $100 Million to the development of Canadian content a couple weeks ago.CHUM apparently doesn't think this is enough. No, rather than play nice with the competition - since incidently, CHUM was granted broadcast permission as well - they rather fight the decision. Are they really looking out for Canadian content? Or just don't want anyone else to join the party?
