Mobile Radio enables Unsigned Artists

Andy CatoWith all the advances in digital radio technology, especially the growing trend of getting content through your mobile phone, many musicians are looking to alternative distribution to get the word out about their talent. Completely bypassing big record labels, unsigned artists (a term far more accurate than 'indie artists') can enable listeners hungry for new music while keeping a larger percentage of the profit. Take Andy Cato of Groove Armada as an example - he's teamed up with UK's O2 to offer tracks for download to mobile devices. As a result, he's able to fully gauge how much he's making PER SONG, allowing a better rev share opportunity. Nice.

With Ericsson, Motorola, and many other mobile carriers and manufacturers frantically partnering with music services, this will turn into a new form of distribution for artists looking make music AND keep the money that's owed to them. That, my friends, is a revolution.
